Why I Decided To Transform My Sales Approach
I was plain scared of sales calls. I thought I couldn’t do it. I felt inadequate and even shy about it. I was worried I would be pushy and people wouldn’t like me. I really wanted to be confident. I really wanted to solve the sales cringe—that feeling I’d get when I had to talk to a prospect or even invite them to an initial call.
I really wanted to feel as confident talking to them as a prospect as I did when they were already a client.
I was worried I’d never close clients, and my coaching would never become a real business. I just hated the whole idea of sales.
The Step-by-Step Transformation of My Sales Approach
Step 1: Reframing My Mindset
The first big shift was reframing my mindset. Instead of focusing on what I was trying to get from my prospect—namely that they like me and hire me—I started to think about what I could give. This changed everything for me. When I focused on how I could help my prospects, I felt less pressure and more authentic in my interactions.
Step 2: Mastering the Discovery Call
Next, I took the discovery call seriously. I moved away from a laissez-faire attitude and developed a structured approach that felt natural. I practiced diligently, refining my process until it felt like second nature. This dedication not only improved my skills but also boosted my confidence. I realized that a successful coach needs to be good at discovery calls and committed to them.
Step 3: Shifting My Identity
The final transformation involved shifting my self-identity. Up until then, I saw myself as “small.” I had to start viewing myself as someone capable of running a successful business. I had to ask myself, “Who do I need to be to have a successful coaching business?” This meant stepping out of my comfort zone and playing bigger. Mastering the discovery call helped me see myself differently and reinforced that a successful coach shows up and commits to these critical steps.
The Ups and Downs: My Personal Insights from the Transformation Journey
The journey was not smooth sailing. There were moments of self-doubt, anxiety, and even fear. But each challenge brought a lesson. I learned the importance of perseverance, the power of a supportive community, and the value of continuous self-improvement. Each discovery call became an opportunity to grow and improve.
Conclusion
Transforming my approach to sales was a game-changer. It impacted not just my business but also my self-worth and confidence. If you’re struggling with sales calls, remember that it’s possible to overcome these fears. Start by reframing your mindset, mastering the discovery call, and shifting your identity to see yourself as the successful coach you aspire to be.
