RESILIENCE is the ability to bounce back from challenges, to keep going even when the going gets tough.

It’s not just about pushing through difficulties but also about adapting, recovering, and growing stronger from the experiences.

In the coaching profession, building resilience is crucial to sustaining a successful and fulfilling career.

My Personal Story: Struggling with Motivation

Recently, I found myself facing a significant dip in motivation. After a big push for my online business—creating and recording a MasterClass called “Convert with Confidence: Discovery Calls Made Easy,” developing a Confident Coach Planner, building a sales funnel, and planning eight weeks of content—I was exhausted.

Instead of riding the wave of accomplishment, I felt like I’d hit a wall. The energy I usually brought to my work was gone, and I found myself struggling to sit down and do anything.

It wasn’t the first time I’d felt this way, but it was a stark reminder that resilience isn’t just about endurance.

It’s about knowing when to step back, rest, and recharge. In fact, the reason I had to reduce my CrossFit sessions from five to three per week was because I was getting injured from not resting enough.

The same lesson applies to our mental and emotional well-being as coaches.

So, how did I use my resilience to get back on track?

It wasn’t just about sheer willpower. It was about reconnecting with my deeper purpose—the discovery and connection with my True Self, or Self-realization.

This spiritual grounding reminded me that there’s always light on the other side, and that gave me the energy to start again.

Key Strategies for Building Resilience

Here are a few key strategies that have helped me build resilience, and that I believe can help you too:

1. Connecting with Your Spiritual Self

One of the most powerful ways to build resilience is by connecting with your spiritual self. This connection can take many forms, whether it’s through meditation, prayer, or simply spending time in nature.

For me, reconnecting with my spiritual practices was the key to renewing my energy and finding my way back to my work. When you tap into your spiritual self, it takes the pressure off feeling like you have to control everything.

It allows you to trust in the process, knowing that you’re supported by something greater than yourself.

2. Reframing Obstacles as Opportunities

Another crucial aspect of resilience is the ability to reframe obstacles as opportunities. Our brains are wired to focus on the negative, but with intention and practice, we can train ourselves to see the positive side of challenges.

Every setback is an opportunity for growth, every failure a chance to learn. This shift in perspective doesn’t happen overnight, but with practice, it can become a powerful tool in your resilience toolkit.

3. Rest and Recovery

Resilience isn’t just about pushing through—it’s also about knowing when to rest. My experience with CrossFit taught me the importance of rest and recovery to prevent injury and sustain long-term performance.

The same principle applies to your coaching career.

After a big push, like the one I experienced, taking time to rest and recover is crucial.

This could mean a massage, a day trip in the country, or simply taking time to read and relax. Resting allows you to recharge so you can come back stronger and more empowered to tackle the challenges ahead.

4. Cultivating Gratitude

Gratitude is another powerful practice that can bolster resilience.

When you focus on what you’re grateful for, it shifts your energy and mindset, lifting you up even in difficult times.

Gratitude can literally change your vibration, and according to the Law of Attraction, this means you’ll attract more of what you’re grateful for. No matter what’s going on, finding those things you can be thankful for can help you navigate the ups and downs with more grace and positivity.

Applying Resilience in Your Coaching Career

Building resilience isn’t a one-time effort; it’s an ongoing practice that integrates into your daily life. Here are some practical tips for applying these strategies in your coaching career:

  • Start Your Day with Intention: Connect with your spiritual self through meditation or prayer to set a positive tone for the day.
  • Reframe Challenges: When faced with a difficult situation, consciously look for the opportunity within the obstacle.
  • Schedule Rest: Make rest and recovery a regular part of your routine, especially after periods of intense work.
  • Practice Gratitude: Take a few moments each day to reflect on what you’re grateful for, and let that positive energy fuel your resilience.

Conclusion

Resilience is the foundation that allows you to thrive in the ups and downs of a coaching career.

By connecting with your spiritual self, reframing obstacles, prioritizing rest, and cultivating gratitude, you can build the resilience needed to sustain your passion and effectiveness as a coach.
